The 90-day relocation plan

A week-by-week plan to move abroad, from 'I'm doing it' to your first coffee as a local.

Packed suitcases and moving boxes

Days 90–60: decide and document

  • Shortlist 2–3 cities. Visit or do a 2-week trial stay if you can.
  • Pick your visa route and book your consulate appointment.
  • Order apostilled documents: birth certificate, background check, degree.
  • Talk to your employer or clients about working remotely.

Days 60–30: money and stuff

  • Open your multi-currency account and order backup cards.
  • Sell, store or ship. Most people ship far less than they think.
  • Sort health insurance and refill prescriptions for 3 months.
  • Decide what to do with your home: rent it, sell it or house-sit it.

Days 30–0: land softly

  • Book a furnished mid-term rental for month one, then look in person.
  • Book flights and your airport transfer.
  • Join the Nomadista city circle for your new city.
  • Download offline maps, transit apps and a translator.

Your first 30 days

  • Get your local tax number, residence card and bank account.
  • Find your café, your gym, your grocery store and your people.
  • Give yourself grace. Month two is when it starts to feel like home.
